in the given figure AD is hypotenuse of

triangle ABD BY Pythagoras theorem

AD=√13^2-5^2=12cm

now, in triangle ADC IT IS ALSO RIGHT ANGLED SO

AC is hypotenuse so

15^2=12^2+x^2

225=144+x^2

x=√225-144

x=√81

x=9cm.
