To find:- x and y

Proof:-

Let the angle opposite to 70° be w and the linear pair of x be z

We know that,

w = 70° (Vertically Opposite Angles)

Thus,

w + y = 180° (Alternate Interior angles of the transversal s)

so, y = 180 - w = 180 - 70 = 110°

Now,

z = 40° (Corresponding angles of the transversal t)

thus,

x + z = 180° (Linear Pair on a straight line t or transversal t)

x = 180° - z = 180 - 40 = 140°

Hence,

x = 140° and y = 110°
