In the adjoining figure, PQRS is a square of side 3cm and ABCD is also a square. If the uniform width of the shaded portion is 2cm, find the area of the shaded portion.​

Area of PQRS,

 {2}^{2}  = 4 \:  {cm}^{2}

Area of ABCD,

 {3}^{2}  = 9  \: {cm}^{2}

Area of shaded region = Area of ABCD - Area of PQRS..

By substituting the values in the above equation..

9 - 6 = 3  \: {cm}^{2}
