in the adjoining figure ABCD is a trapezium ab is parallel to CD and its area is 33 cm²

Area = (1/2)((2x + 1 + x)(x - 4)   = 33

=> (3x + 1)(x - 4) = 66

=> 3x² - 12x + x - 4 = 66

=> 3x² - 11x - 70 = 0

=> 3x² - 21x + 10x - 70 = 0

=> 3x(x - 7) + 10(x - 7) =0

=> (3x + 10)(x - 7) = 0

x = 7    x = -10/3 but x can be -ve  as x is one of the side

=> x = 7

AB = 7 cm

BC = 7-2 = 5 cm

CD = 2*7 + 1 = 15 cm

AD  =  BC  given

=> AD = 5 cm

AB = 7 cm  BC = 5cm  CD = 15 cm  AD = 5 cm

Learn more:
