In the beginning the family was disappointed by and ashamed of Attila's, the dog, passive and friendly temperament. The mother of the household even said that they lock up Attila in a room at night, else he may call in a thief and show him round.
For the family, Attila was a dog that could not be trusted as a guard dog. He was too friendly in his manner allowing anybody to enter the property that he is supposed to be guarding. If anything Attila is more like a pet than a guard dog.
However, one member of the family does always defend Attila while everybody else sees the negative in Attila, and the defender ensures that the dog remains with the family in spite of the fact that he is in reality not a guard dog at all.
