In the below figure, AD = CD and AB = CB

(i) State the three pairs of equal parts in ΔABD and ΔCBD.
(ii) Is ΔABD ≅ ΔCBD? Why or why not?

(i) In ΔABD and ΔCBD,

AB = CB

AD = CD

BD = BD

(ii) Yes, it is congruent by SSS congruence criterion.

(iii) Since ΔABD ≅ ΔCBD,

∠ABD = ∠CBD

Hence, BD divides ∠ABC into 2 equal parts.

Therefore, BD bisects ∠ABC.
