The chapter 'My Childhood' portrays the character difference between two well - educated teachers of his class. When he was in fifth grade, there came a new teacher to his class. He was asked to move away from the places where the high caste Brahmin children sat. His friend Ramanadha Sastry wept deeply on hearing that. This made a great impression in Kalam's mind.

EXPLANATION:

    On the other hand, he even had a science teacher, Sivasubramania Iyer, from whom he was influenced the idea of breaking the social barriers. He was invited to the teacher's house and was given a meal. But his wife, who did not wanted to serve a Muslim boy in her pure house refused to serve the food. Instead it was the teacher who served him and he sat along with Kalam.

    His wife was later convinced to serve with her own hands. This made a change in her conservative attitudes.
