In “the chrysanthemums” why is Elisa considered a complex character?

Elisa is considered to be a complex character throughout ‘The Chrysanthemums’ because she experiences many emotions and motivation throughout the book.

She is seen acting differently with different people that confused people and they call her a complex character.

But with due to her experience, it is understandable why she feels and behaves differently.
