. In the circuit 2ohm and 4 ohm are connected in series and 6 ohm in parallel with a 6v battery, calculate:
(a) Total effective resistance.
(b) Potential difference across 4Ω, 2Ω.

Explanation:

(a) for series

  • Req=R1+R2
  • Req=2+4
  • Req=6 Ohm

now,total resistance=1/6+1/6

  • 1/Req=2/6
  • Req=6/2
  • Req=3 ohm

Total resistance is 3 ohm

(b)

R=3 ohm

V=6V

from ohms law V=I×R

V/R=I

6/3=I

2A=I

now ,

  • p.D across 4 ohm

____________________________

R=4 ohm

I=2A

V=I×R

V=4×2

V=8V

  • p.d across 2 ohm

____________________________

R=2 ohm

I=2A

V=I×R

V=2×2

V=4V

NOTE - in series combination current is same so we will take same current for both resistance
