a. Answer

For series combinations::

Rs = r1 + r2 + r3

so,

effective resistance = 3+4+5

= 12 ohm

B. Answer

for parallel combinations

Rp = R1R2÷R1+R2

so, Rp= 5×5÷5+5

= 25÷10

= 2.5 ohm

now for series combinations,

Rs= 2.5 + 2.5

= 5 ohm

so for second figure ie.B

effective resistance is 5ohm..

a) in the first diagram 3 ,4 ,5 ohm resistors are connected in series with then equivalent resistance = 3+4+5

12ohm

b)

5 ,5 ohms are in parallel then equivalent resistance of this are (5*5)/(5+5) = 2.5

2.5 is in series with the 2.5 ohm

then equivalent resistance is 2.5+2.5 = 5 ohm
