Answer:

The emf across the battery is 96 volts

Explanation:

Given:  current through 6-ohm resistor (I₁)= 12 A

Step 1 :   voltage across 6Ω resistor

 V =I₁R

 V = 2 × 6

 V = 12 volt

Step 2:  This voltage will be the same across 6Ω,3Ω,2Ω resistors as they are parallel connected.

(i) so the current through 3Ω resistor

I₂ = \frac{12}{3}

I₂ = 4 A\\

(ii) current through 2Ω resistor

I₃=  \frac{12}{2}

I₃ =6A

Step 3 : Current is same across the series connection so current flowing across the circuit is

I = I₁+I₂+I₃

I = 2+4+6

I = 12 A

Step 4: Total resistance across circuit can be calculated as  R= R_{1} + \frac{R_{2}R_{3} R_{4} }{R_{2} R_{3}+R_{2} R_{4} +R_{3} R_{4} }+ R_{5} +R_{6}

 R = 4 + 1+2.5+ 0.5

R= 8Ω

Step 3: So , emf across circuit is

E = IR

E = 12× 8

E = 96 volts
