Given : power dissipated across 2 Ohm resistance is 2 Watt .

To Find : The power dissipation across 8 Ohm resistance

Solution:

3 , 2 and 6 Ω  resistance are in series

Hence net resistance across 3 resistors is

1/R = 1/3 + 1/2 + 1/6

=> 1/R = (2 + 3 + 1)/6

=> 1/R = 1

=> R = 1 Ω

Then total resistance  in the circuit is 8 + 1  = 9 Ω

Let say total voltage applied in circuit = E

Voltage across 8 Ω resistor  = 8E/9  volts

Voltage across  all the resistors in parallel  =  E/9  volts

P=V²/R

=> 2 = (E/9)²/2

=> E= 18 Volts

Hence Voltage across 8 Ω resistor = 8 * 18 /9  = 16 Volts

The power dissipation across 8 Ohm resistance  = 16²/8

= 32W

The power dissipation across 8 Ohm resistance will be 32W
