An interrupt handler, also known as an interrupt service routine (ISR), is a subroutine callback in an operating system or application driver that is caused by the receipt of an interrupt.

The routine of the interrupt service is stored at the address of the interrupt vector points. The interrupt vectors in the on board ROM are close to the top of the memory. This triggers the CPU to stop running the current program when an interrupt occurs. When an interrupt is generated, the processor saves its execution via a context switch and starts to execute the interrupt vector
