Given : in the diagram given below, lines n and m are cut by transversal p and q

To Find : value of x would make lines n and m parallel

Solution:

Properties of angles formed by transversal line  with two parallel lines :

• Corresponding angles are congruent.

• Alternate angles are congruent.  ( Interiors & Exterior  both )

• Interior angles are supplementary. ( adds up to 180°)

angle between 30°  and 80°   is x

as corresponding angles are equal

angle formed by transversal line p with parallel lines n & m

30°  , x  & 80°   form a linear pair

=> 30° +   x  +  80°   = 180°

=>  x  +  110°   = 180°

=> x  = 180° - 110°

=> x = 70°
