In order to obtain yellow precipitate of lead iodide, the salt that needs to be used (instead of lead nitrate) should also contain lead. Lead sulphate being an insoluble salt can not be used for the given activity. Thus, lead acetate which is a soluble salt in water can be used in the given activity.
