Answer: Church

Explanation:

In the eighteenth century in France the peasants paid the taxes to the Church.

These taxes were called Tithes which were paid by the France peasants during the 18th century to the Church.

The French society was divided into three groups during the 18th century . These  groups were referred as Estates. They were called First estate, Second estate and Third estate.

The Third estate was further subdivided into three categories.

The first category included merchants, big businessmen, lawyers, court officials and etc.

The second category included artisans and peasants.

The third one included landless labours, small peasants and servants belonged . This category were looked upon as the lowest class in the society. People belonging to this category had to pay all the existing taxes which even included tithes.
