In the electrolysis of water,

a) Name the gas collected at anode and cathode

b) Why is the volume of gas collected at one electrode double than the other?

c) What would happen if dil H2SO4 is not added to water?

Explanation:

a- anode = oxygen

Cathode = hydrogen

b- we know that water is H2O. That

means two moles of hydrogen and

one mole of oxygen. That is why

Hydrogen gas has more volume here.

C- dil H2SO4 is added to make the solution a good electrolyte and if it is not added then the water won't conduct electricity.
