Answer:

(a) x= -2

(b) y= 1

Step-by-step explanation:

(a) 2x + 3y= 11

--> 2x + 3(5)= 11

--> 2x + 15= 11

--> 2x= 11-14= -4

--> x= -2

(b) 2x + 3y= 11

--> 2(4) +3y = 11

--> 8 + 3y= 11

--> 3y= 11-8= 3

--> y= 1

Given,

the equation 2x+3y=11

To Find,

a) x if y=5

b) y if x=4

Solution,

equation give is 2x+3y=11                (1)

a) put y=5 in equation (1)

    2x+3(5)=11

    2x+15=11

    2x=11-15

    2x=-4

    x = \frac{-4}{2}

    x= -2

b) put x=4 in equation (1)

   2(4)+3y=11

   8+3y=11

    3y=11-8

    3y=3

     y = \frac{3}{3}

     y = 1

Hence the value of x if y = 5 is -2 and the value of y if x = 4 is 1 .
