In the experiment shown a steel wire is tied to two chairs and kept taut. Two students sit, one on each chair. A weight is attached to the long wire with the help of a string and a pointer is attached to the weight to show the reading. Steel wire What will happen to the pointer when the candles are lit? B It will move down. It will move up, then down. A It will move up. It will remain at the same C D position.

Answer: B It will move down. Please mark me as brainliest.

Explanation:

When the candles are lit then we know that the heat produced from it makes the vibration of the molecules in the steel wire as we know that Heating a liquid increases the speed of the molecules. An increase in the speed of the molecules competes with the attraction between molecules and causes molecules to move a little further apart. Cooling a liquid decreases the speed of the molecules.

Because of this reason , The wire or steel wire starts to shrink and move down because of the vibration produced. So the taut or other wire like thing held down at the bottom also moves down beacuse of shrinking from the upwards direction.

Also the pointer attached to it also moves down as the weight will also move down. That is why the reading or pointer moves down.

This occurs all because When heat is added to a substance, the molecules and atoms vibrate faster. As atoms vibrate faster, the space between atoms increases. The motion and spacing of the particles determines the state of matter of the substance. The end result of increased molecular motion is that the object expands and takes up more space. So it moves down .
