Hi fellow,

The answer is following;

Purpose of KOH : In the experiment set up for carbon dioxide, the purpose of KOH is to absorb all the carbon dioxide released during the process of respiration.

Absence of KOH: If the experimenter forgets to place a flask KOH in the area of the experiment, the carbon dioxide released will not be absorbed by anything which means that the factors effecting the experiment have changed and hence will effect the experiment resulting in altered readings and experiment results.

I hope the answer helped. Thanks
