In the figure a line is drawn from the top vertex to the bottom side of the triangle which divides
in the ratio 2 : 3. If the area of one part is 30 sq centimetre. Find the area of other part. Also find the
area of the whole triangle. Hence find the ratio of OM and ON.

Answer:

The area of an equilateral triangle is 163–√, what is the length of each side?

Possible Answers:

16

8

12

4

Correct answer:

8

Explanation:

An equilateral triangle can be broken down into 2 30-60-90 right triangles (see image). The length of a side (the base) is 2x while the length of the height is x3–√. The area of a triangle can be calculated using the following equation:

A=12bh

Therefore, if 2x equals the length of a side:

A=163–√=12bh=12(2x)(x3–√)=x23–√

163–√=x23–√

16=x2

x=4

A length of the side equals 2x:

2(4)=8
