In the figure, ABCDE is a pentagon with BE||CD and BC||DE. BC is perpendicular to

CD. AB= 5cm, AE=5cm, BE= 7cm, BC= x-y and CD= x+y. If the perimeter of ABCDE is

27cm. find the value of x and y, given x, y ≠ 0.

Answer:

Here's your answer...

Step-by-step explanation:

Given :

perimeter = 27 cm

AB = 5cm

BC = x - y

CD = x + y

AE = 5cm

BE = 7cm

Since, BC || DE and BE || CD with BC perpendicular CD , BCDE is a rectangle

therefore, it's opposite sides are equal

BE = CD

X + Y = 5 ________(1)

and DE = BC = X - Y

Given perimeter = 27 cm

AB + BC + CD + DE + EA = 21

3 + X - Y + X + Y + X - Y + 3 = 21

6 + 3x - y = 21

3x - y = 15________(2)

Add (1) and (2)

4x = 20

X =5

Put X = 5 in equation (1)

X + Y = 5

5 + y = 5

y = 0

( x,y) (5,0) is the solution
