in the figure angle ABC =90°, BD is perpendicular to AC, AB=6cm, BC=8cm, CA=10cm then the length of the AD is please find AD​

Length of AD = 3.6 cm

ABC is a right triangle.

Given that BD is perpendicular to AC.Let AD be x, then DC will be 10-x.

Since BD is perpendicular to AC, both ADB and CDB are right triangles.

BD is the side which is common to both these triangles.

Let the length of BD be y.

Using pythagorus theorem in right triangle ADB,

we get

y² = 36 - x²

From CDB ,

y² = 64 - ( 10 - x )²

= -36 + 20x - x²

equating,

36 - x² = -36 + 20x - x²

gives,

72 = 20x

x = 72/20

= 3.6 cm
