In the figure, if AB=8cm & PE=3cm then what's the length of AE ?

Given : AB = 8cm

PE=3cm

PE=DP=BD=CE (tangent)

therefore CE= 3cm

AE=AC-EC

as AB= CA

AE= 8-3

therefore

AB = BC

AB = 8 cm

hence ...

AC is also 8cm ( AB = AC ) .......(1)

Similarly,

PE = CE

It is given that,

PE = 3

Therefore,

CE = 3 …… (2) ( PE = CE )

Subtracting equations (1) and (2), we get,

AC − CE = 8 − 3

From the figure we can see that,

AC − CE = AE

Therefore,

AE = 8 − 3

AE = 5 cm
