Given :   tower. A and B are two  laces on the ground on the either side of the  Tower such that AB subtends a right angle at  p If the distances of A and B from the base Q  of the tower are 40 m and 90 m respectively,

To find :   height of the tower.

Solution:

Let say ∠APQ = α

∠APQ + ∠BPQ =  ∠APB = 90°

=> α + ∠BPQ =  90°

=> ∠BPQ = 90°  - α

Tan ∠APQ =  AQ/ PQ

=> Tanα = 40/PQ

Tan ∠BPQ =  BQ/PQ

=> Tan(90 - α)  = 90/PQ

=> Cotα = 90/PQ

Multiplying both

Tanα *  Cotα   =  (40/PQ)(90/PQ)

=> 1    = 3600 /(PQ)²

=> PQ² =  60²

=> PQ = 60

PQ = Height of tower

Height of tower = 60 m
