Area of the shaded part:

A = r² π - a² = 72/2 units²

a = d / √2   and d = 2 r

a = 2 r / √2

72/2 = r² π - ( 2 r / √ 2 )²

72/2 = r² π - 4 r² / 2

72 / 2 = r² · 22/7 - 2 r²         ( π ≈ 22/7 )

72 / 2 = 22/7 r² - 14/7 r²

72 / 2 = 8 / 7 r²

r² = 72/2 : 8/7 = 72/2 · 7/8 = 504/16 = 63/2

r = √63/2 = 3 √7/2 ≈ 5.6 units

Answer: The radius of the circle is approx. 5.6 units.
