In the figure shown, ends A and B of the string are lowered with accelerations 2m/s² and 6m/s² respectively.
Mass of the pulley is 3 kg. There is no friction anywhere. Tension in the string is:
a) 21 N
b) 18 N
c) 12 N
d) 9 N
Can anyone EXPLAIN this answer please?? I need it now

Given,

Acceleration of end A=2 m/s²

Acceleration of end B=6m/s²

Mass of the pulley=3kg

To Find,

Tension in the string.

Solution,

Let, a be the acceleration of ball and a1 and a2 be the acceleration of platforms A and B.

So, T.a1+T.a2-2T.a=0

 ⇒a=(a1+a2)/2

So, by free body diagram and balancing the whole thing,

We get, 3g-2T=3a

⇒30-2T=3(2+6)/2

⇒30-2T=12

⇒2T=18

⇒T=9 N

Hence, Tension in the string is 9N.
