Answer:

x= 17 cm

y= 8.5 cm

Here the triangle is right angled triangle.

By using the Pythagoras theorem we know , square of base and the square of perpendicular height is equl to the square of hypotenuse (b²+p²=h²)

15²+8²=x²

x²=15²+8²

x²=225+64

x²= 289

x=√289

x=17

Since x is the diameter of the semi-circle and y is the to the radius of the semi-circle.

Diameter = Twice the radius

Hence, 17 = 2r

2r= 17

r= 17/2

r= 8.5

Therefore x = 17 and y = 8.5
