The measure of y is 35°

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

one angle = 80°

angle adjacent to y = 45°

To find:

value of y

Solution:

The center of the figure or the intersection of the lines is assumed as O

let the name of the bigger angle in the figure be ∠AOB

& the name of the adjacent angle of y be ∠DOC

& name of the angle with value y be ∠COE

According to the given-

∠AOB=80°, ∠DOC= 45°, ∠COE=y

∠DOE= ∠DOC+∠COE..................(angle sum property)

∴ ∠DOE= 45°+y

But, ∠DOE=∠AOB.........(vertically opposite angles)

∠DOE=∠AOB= 80°.........(1)

Now, ∠DOE= 45°+y

80°= 45°+y.................................(from 1)

80°- 45°=y

∴ y= 35°

The value of y is 35°.
