 Given:

Graph between velocity and time for motion of body.

To find: Total distance covered by the body.

Calculation:

In a V-t or velocity-time graph which describes the motion of any body, the distance covered by the body is determined by calculating the area under the curve of the projected graph.

  • Velocity is defined as rate of change in position of an object with respect to time.
  • Distance is a scalar quantity and it is the total path covered by the body in the given time interval.
  • Relation between velocity, distance and time:
  • Velocity is the distance per unit time.
  • Velocity = displacement/time
  • v=\frac{d}{t}

The area covered by the slope from t = 3 seconds to t = 7 seconds will be the distance covered by body in 3s to 7s.

Total distance covered = Area of AQPB

AQPB is a trapezium and so area of trapezium:

= 1/2*(QA+PB)*AB = 1/2*(4+10)*4 = 14*2 = 28 m

Answer:

Distance covered between 3s to 7s is (a) 28 metres.

Your question is incomplete, you might be referring to the question below:

In the following figure of velocity-time graph for the motion of the body, the total distance covered by the body from 3 s to 7 s is

(a) 28 m

(b) 56 m

(c) 14 m

(d) 35 m
