In the following figure the horizontal lines l and m are parallel. What is the measure of x + y?

x = 40° ( alternate co - interior angle)

now we need to find the value of y

40° + y + 75° = 180°

y + 115° = 180°

y = 180° - 115°

y = 65°

hence x = 40° and y = 65°
