Only 10% of the energy present is given to the consumer in the next level, of the total energy the level/animal has.

Therefore, if lion has 100J

Dear will have 1,000J

and grass will have 10,000J

Energy available to different species in a food chain is determined by 10% law.

Given food chain is as follows:

Plant --> Dear --> Lion.

It is given that 100 Joules of energy is available to lion.

Let "A" be the energy available to the Deer.

Therefore,

10% of A = 100

10/100 *  A = 100

A = 1000

Energy consumed by deer = 1000 Joules.

Let the energy available to the Plant is  "B"

Therefore,

10% of B = 1000

10/100 *  B = 1000

B = 10000 J

So, energy available to the plants =  10000 Joules.
