The food chain discussed in the question is as follows:
Plant --> Rat --> Snake --> Hawk
So, according to 10% law , if the plant stores a total energy of 500 J, the Rat obtains 10% of 500 , i.e , 10/100 * 500 = 50 J....
So now again according to 10% law, the Snake will obtain 10% of what the rat has , i.e., 10/100* 50 = 5 J of energy....
Hence you have your answer... 5 J of energy is available from the Snake for the Hawk..... But the Hawk Only obtains 10% of the snake's energy..... i.e, 10/100* 5=
0.5 J
Your answer is 5 J.... Not 0.5 J
