Let the fourth proportional to the numbers 10, 50 ,8 and forth be x. Then from the definition of the fourth proportional, we must have:
10: 50 :: 8 : x or in terms of the fractions we can write;
10x = 50×8
In other words, we have x = {50×8 }/4 = 40
Hence
The forth proportional is 40
