Explanation:
Born on May 7, 1861, Rabindranath Tagore redefined Bengali literature, arts and music with his verses and artistic works in the late 19th and early 20th century. His poetry collection, 'Gitanjali', which is considered to be "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse", won him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913 making him the first non-European to win the prestigious award. Often called the Bard of Bengal, Tagore started writing poetry when he was eight-years-old and at 16 he released his first poems under the pseudonym Bhānusiṃha. It was in 1877 that his first short stories and plays were published under his real name. Apart from 'Gitanjali', some of his other notable works are 'Gora' (Fair-Faced) and 'Ghare-Baire' (The Home and the World). Though it has been more than a 100 years since his works were first published, Tagore's stories, poetry and essays stay relevant even in today's times. A poet, writer, humanist and universalist, Tagore also penned two nations' national anthems--India's 'Jana Gana Mana' and Bangladesh's 'Amar Shonar Bangla'. Remembering Gurudev, here we list down some beautiful lines from his timeless poems.
