The organism that obtains energyfrom sunlight is called the producer. Often these are plants but in some circumstances it can be bacteria. Even though it is producers that bringenergy into the food chain from thesun it is consumers that make up the majority of the food chain.

1% is transferred from sun to producer and 10% is transferred from one trophic level to another thus called 10% law of unidirectional flow
