(a) Since the bond formation involves loss and gain of electrons, the bond formed must be ionic.

(b) Formation of MgCl2 molecule:

Mg→Mg2++2e−

2Cl+2e−→2Cl−

∴Mg2++2Cl−→MgCl2

(c) When NaCl is melted, the ions become mobile. Due to this they can conduct electricity.

(d) Due to strong electrostatic interactions between the ions Na+ & Cl− , more energy is required to break this interaction. Hence, due to this it has high melting point.
