In the given figure, AB is the diameter of a circle with centre O and OA = 3.5 cm. Find the area of the unshaded region.

area of the big circle

= πr²

= 22 / 7   * 3.5 * 3.5

= 11 * 3.5

= 38.5 cm²

area of small circle

= πr²

= (22/7)(3.5/2)(3.5/2)

= (38.5/4)

= 9.625 cm²

area of triangle Δ CBD

= (1/2)(7)(3.5)

= 3.5 * 3.5

= 12.25 cm²

area of the semi-circle (½ of the big circle)

= 38.5/2

= 19.25 cm²

area unshaded in the semi-circle ACD:

= 19.25 - 9.625

= 9.625 cm²

total area unshaded

= 9.625 + 12.25

= 21.875 cm²
