In the given figure ABCD is a square plot of land, with side 7 m, which has a path of width 1.5 m outside
the boundary on all sides. A cow is tethered at point with a rope such that when the rope is taut the
cow can just reach point A or C. A triangular area EBF is converted into a barn such that the cow can
touch the barn wall at one point, G and the length of two walls are equal.
Q 141. What is the area of plot grazed by the cow?

Given : ABCD is a square plot of land, with side 7 m,

A cow is tethered at point with a rope such that when the rope is taut the

cow can just reach point A or C

To Find : What is the area of plot grazed by the cow?

a) 38.5 m²

b) 77 m²

c) 19.5 m²

d) 154 m²

Solution:

A cow is tethered at point with a rope such that when the rope is taut the

cow can just reach point A or C

so cow is either tethered at B or D

Radius of circle = 7 m

Sector Angle  = 90°

area of plot grazed by the cow = (90/360)π(7)²

= (1/4)(22/7)7²

= 154/4

= 77/2

= 38.5

area of plot grazed by the cow = 38.5 m²
