In the given figure C is the mid point of AB, D is the mid point of XY and AC=XD. Using Euclids axiom prove that AB=XY.

I am proving it by taking it as DB= 1/4AB

 

proof=    a mid point divide a line into two equal parts 

               therefore, AC=CB .............(1)

                               CD=DB.............(2)

               hence, AB=AC+CB...............(3)

                           

              putting the value of CB in equation (1),

               AC=CD+DB

               AC=DB+DB    (CD=DB from equation 2)

               AC= 2DB     ...............(4)

              CB= 2DB         (AC=CB from equation 1)        ............(5)

     

              AB=AC+CB     (from equation 3)

              putting the value of AC and CB from equation (4) and (5),we get

              AB= 2DB+2DB

              AB= 4DB

              AB/4 = DB

          or, 1/4AB = DB
