To Find:

  • Area of the path

Solution:

To calculate the area of the path, we can either calculate the area of the whole figure and then subtract the white part, or we can divide the path into rectangles so as to calculate area of each one of them and then add them.

Method 1:

=> Area of the whole figure = Length * breadth

=> Area of the whole figure = 150 * 110

=> Area of the whole figure = 16500cm^2 -----(1)

=> Area of white part = Length * breadth

=> Area of white part = (150-10) * (110-10)

=> Area of white part = 140 * 100

=> Area of white part = 14000cm^2 -----(2)

Now,

=> Area of the path = (Area of the whole figure) - (Area of white part)

from (1) & (2)

=> Area of the path = 16500 - 14000

=> Area of the path = 2500cm^2

Method 2:

(Refer the attachment for the division of the path into rectangles)

=> Area of Rectangle 1 = Length * Breadth

=> Area of Rectangle 1 = 150 * 5

=> Area of Rectangle 1 = 750cm^2

=> Area of Rectangle 2 = Length * Breadth

=> Area of Rectangle 2 = 100 * 5

=> Area of Rectangle 2 = 500cm^2

But,

Area of Rectangle 1 = Area of Rectangle 3 = 750 cm^2

AND

Area of Rectangle 2 = Area of rectangle 4 = 500 cm^2

So,

=> Area of Path = 2(Area of Rectangle 1) + 2(Area of Rectangle 2)

=> Area of path = 2(750) + 2(500)

=> Area of path = 1500 + 1000

=> Area of path = 2500cm^2

Hope it helps!!!!
