Given, AB and AD, BC and DC are equal.

In ∆ABC and ∆ADC,

AB = AD ( given )

AC = AC ( common )

BC = DC ( given )

• ∆ABC ≅ ∆ADC

( by SSS congruency rule )

∠BAC = x = 40°, and

∠DCA = y = 30°. ( by CPCT )

Therefore, the value of x and y is 40° and 30° respectively.
