In the given figure if x is greater than y by one third of a right angle find the value of x and y.

1/3 rd of right angle = 1/3 ☓ 90 = 30°

Now,

x = y + 30 degree (acc to que)

We see

x and y forms a linear pair so,

x + y = 180 degree

y + 30 + y = 180 degree

2y + 30 = 180 degree

2y = 150 degree

y = 75 degree

x = y + 30 = 75 + 30 = 105 degree

Here it is given that - x- y =1/3×90
or,. x - y = 30.......(1)
Also ,. x+y= 180 (linear pair)..(2)
Adding (1) & (2) we get,
2x = 210 i.e x=105°
So putting the value of x in eq.(2) we get,
105 + y = 180 i.e y = 75°.
