The two lines l and m shown in the figure forms 4 angles, a, b, c and d.

∠a and ∠b are vertically opposite angles.

Hence, ∠a=∠b.

Similarly, ∠c and ∠d are also vertically opposite angles.

Hence, ∠d=∠c.

Also, ∠a and ∠d form a linear pair.

Hence, ∠a+∠d=180o

Since ∠a+∠d=180o, ∠a cannot be equal to ∠d, unless they are both right angles, which is not the case here.
