∠BAC=∠BAC(common)

∠AXY=∠ABC(Corresponding angles)

∴By AA congruency rule; ΔABC ~ ΔAXY

   AX/AB = AY/AC (By Basic Proportionality theorem)

=>1/(1+4) = 3/AC

=>1/5=3/AC

=>AC=15cm

   YC=AC-AY

=>YC=15-3

=>YC=12cm

If a line is drawn parallel to one side of a triangle intersecting the other two sides in distinct points, then the other two sides are divided in the same ratio.
