Answer:

Question : In a parallelogram ABCD, if AB = 2x + 5, CD = y + 1, AD = y + 5 and BC = 3x - 4, what is the ratio of AB and BC?

In a parallelogram ABCDABCD , AB¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯=CD¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯AB¯=CD¯ and AD¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯=BC¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯AD¯=BC¯ . So,

y+1=2x+5(1)(1)y+1=2x+5

y+5=3x−4(2)(2)y+5=3x−4

From Equation (1)(1) , y=2x+4y=2x+4 . From (2)(2) , y=3x−9y=3x−9 . So,

2x+4=3x−9(3)(3)2x+4=3x−9

⇒x=13(4)(4)⇒x=13

Hence,

AB¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯BC¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯=2x+53x−4=3135AB¯BC¯=2x+53x−4=3135
