1 mole of HI gives 1 mole of nascent Hydrogen which reduces the compound.

In this compound, there are 2 double bonds oxygen and 2 single bonded.

So 1 nascent H attacks a single bonded O and 1 nascent H attacks the Carbon bonded to it. This means for one OH group 2 nascent H or 2 HI are required.

for a double bonded O, 2 nascent H attack on O and 2 nascent H attack on directly bonded carbon to it. This means 4 nascent H or 4 HI are required.

Hence answer is 12 moles of HI
