Answer:

average speed of hare in the race = 0.5 kilometres per hour

Explanation:

average speed of hare = total distance covered by hare / total time spent    ( including running and sleeping )

distance = speed x time

1st run - finding distance covered when the hare ran for 2 min at a speed of 7.5 km/hr

2 minutes = 2/60 = 1/30 hours

so distance covered in 1st run = 7.5 x  ( 1/30 )

= 7.5 / 30

= 1 / 4

therefore the hare covered a distance of 1/4 km when it ran for 2 min at a speed of 7.5 km/hr

then the hare slept for 56 minutes

2nd run - then the hare ran for 2 min at a speed of 7.5 km/hr

distance covered in 2nd run = 1/4 km

total distance  covered = 1/4 + 1/4 = 2/4 = 1/2 km

total time = 2 ( 1st run ) + 56 ( sleeping time ) + 2 ( 2nd run ) = 60 minutes =  1 hour

average speed = ( 1/2 ) / 1

= 1/2 kilometres per hour

= 0.5 kilometres per hour

therefore the hare ran at an average speed of 0.5 kilometres per hour
