In the hierarchy of classification, a species will have the smallest number of organisms with a maximum of characteristics in common. In contrast, the kingdom will have the largest number of organisms.

Hierarchical Classification

It is a system of grouping things according to a hierarchy, or levels and orders. For humans, the classification would be Animalia (kingdom), Chordata (phylum), class (Mammalia), order (primates), family (Hominidae), genus (homo) and species (sapiens). It goes from a vast category (all animals) all the way down to our unique species (sapiens). This biological species concept is widely used in biology and related fields of study. There are more than 20 other different species concepts. Species traits are defined as qualities of a species’ organisms, like body mass, length or height.
