Bcoz sulphur can give only one one electron to oxygen and they have to take one more oxygen from other atom.. that's why -2 charge

london2023: Actually my question is that....when sulphur makes a single bond with all the 3 oxygen atoms,then we know that there is a presence of a lone pair on sulphur,hence the compound becomes SO4^2-
london2023: But in the case as given above,ll the oxygen atoms have already acquired their octet state...and as sulphur violates the octet rule...hence it can handle 12 atoms.........so where did this 2- actually came from?
